The Great Flying Saucer Myth by Kelly L. Segraves

Just a Little Rib

We read in the 21st verse that "the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, mad he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." In this portion of Scripture we learn something about how God created woman. Interestingly enough, it is one of the most scientific portions of all God's Word. It is quite accurate.

People used to make fun of the concept that God took a rib and created a woman. Recent scientific experiments have shown that the nucleus of the skin cell of a frog can be inserted in place of the nucleus of an egg cell and the egg cell will then produce a frog. This has confirmed the fact that every cell in the body possesses the template necessary for life to come into existence. That is very remarkable.

I am not proposing that man will ever be able to do what God has done, though he sometimes claims he will be able to. But in this particular portion of Scripture, God caused Adam to sleep and performed surgery. He lifted a rib from Adam and from that rib He had every thing necessary to create a female. That rib possessed everything necessary, the fleshly material and the boney material to create another person. Since every cell possesses a template, all God had to do was perform a cell reduction and create a female.

The science of genetics reveals that the basis of the difference between the sexes is found in the chromosomes of the male and female. The male has an X and a Y sex chromosome, whereas the female has two X sex chromosomes. The male sex chromosomes can be represented by XY and the female by XX.

God took two sets of chromosomes XY from the rib of the man and by cell reduction obtained a cell containing the sex chromosomes XX. From this He created a female. There is something unique about that female, because genetically she possesses everything the male possesses; she has the same set of genes and chromosomes which gives unity to the human race.

Adam said, "She is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." He continues to say prophetically that "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." There is something interesting about that comment, "one flesh"; it refers to the oneness and uniqueness that Adam and Eve possessed because they were one and the same genetically. This establishes perfection in the human race, built from the same set of genes and chromosomes.
