The Beginning
In the first
chapter of Genesis we read. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth." Here, in the opening verse of the Bible, God deals with the concept of
creation, and tells us that in the beginning He created the heavens and the earth. We
might wonder exactly when was the beginning? When did creation take place? Genesis 1:31-2:3 states: "And
God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the
evening and the morning were the
sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host
of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and
he rested on the seventh day
from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and
sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God
created and made."
The heavens and the earth were finished after the sixth day and on the seventh day God
ended the work which He had made and He rested. Quite simply then, the beginning must have
taken place six days before the completion. It has occasionally been said that the word "day"
could represent a very long period of time. Let us look closely at the Word of God to see
if we can understand what a day is.
