The Great Flying Saucer Myth by Kelly L. Segraves

The Origin of Man

By way of introduction to our study, let us look at Genesis, chapter 1, verse 26, in order to understand what the Bible has to say about the origin of man. Concurrently we will be considering some of the claims of advocated of a new religion, UFOlogy, to see what they have to say concerning the origin of man and Biblical revelation. "And God said, Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." (Genesis 126:27) God states here that He is creating man in His own image. Man created in the image of God is the highest of all God's creation. Notice man was created to have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the fowl of the air, over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every creeping thing. He was not created to be one of the beasts, but he was created as the highest of all God's creation.

In chapter 2 the formation of man by God is emphasized. We read that "the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (Genesis 2:7)

Later on in the chapter it states that the "Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." (Genesis 2:15-17) God created man and formed him out of the dust of the earth; He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man uniquely became a living soul created in the image of God. Man was the highest of the creatures that God had created upon this planet, created to have dominion over all of God's other creatures. He was placed in the Garden and instructed to care for and keep it, and given one prohibition: he was not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The day he did so, he would surely die.
